My essay is going to be about similes and how Shakespeare uses similes in Romeo and Juliet. My favourite use of simile is when Romeo says ‘like a rich jewel in an Ethiop’s ear’ and he is comparing Juliet to something so glamorous, rich in colour and shiny. This shows that Romeo loves Juliet with all his heart and will put his life on the line for her. Shakespeare really engages with the readers by some how putting emphasis in those words.
When Romeo says “it is the east and Juliet is the sun” If you didn’t know the Sun is often referred to the biggest star in the world and what i think Romeo is trying to say is that Romeo is a star a really big one. This is also another way of Romeo saying to Juliet that he loves her. Shakespeare does this so that he can make you think and really get you into the book
Lastly Juliet says this “My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep” what she is trying to say is that her generosity for him is limitless as the sea and that her love is as deep so you can tell she is deeply in love with Romeo. Shakespeare puts this to show the true love for Romeo from Juliet.
