The scene opens on the streets of Verona. Benvolio is drawn into the Fray by Tybalt,
The fight rapidly escalates as more citizens become involved and soon the heads of both households appear on the scene. At last, Prince Escalus arrives and stops the riot, forbidding any further outbreaks.
- Sampson gives the Montagues the Elizabethan finger—he bites his thumb at them. Benvolio learns from Romeo that he is in love with Rosaline. Benvolio advises Romeo to find someone else to love. Romeo walks off, saying that he can’t forget Rosaline. Benvolio vows to help him forget her.
- Benvolio blames Tybalt on starting the fight. Romeo was sad that he was rejected by Roaline
- Romeo says he will never love another women. But then Benvolio promises he will make it happen.

This works well as a summary. Some of the events are out of order, however. Also, before he was drawn into the fray, what was Benvolio doing?
